Patent Engineer
Kana Marumo is a Patent Engineer in the Intellectual Property Practice.
She is involved in drafting and prosecuting both local and overseas patent applications for various local and overseas
clients. She also conducts prior art searches and patentability assessments, and renders advice in relation to obtaining
and exploiting patents.
Kana has prior experience in research work in the area of microfluidics and tissue engineering, including the design and
use of a patient-derived micro-tumour chip for personalised cancer drug testing (at NUS Micro-Tissue Engineering Laboratory
in collaboration with the Genome Institute of Singapore, A*STAR).
She had also been involved in other collaborative biomedical engineering projects related to the design and development of
medical devices, such as a fracture fixation device for wrist fractures and a diagnostic tool for scoliosis.
Kana graduated with a B. Eng (Hons.) (Biomedical Engineering), specialising in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, from
the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she was also placed on the Dean’s List. Kana later obtained a MSc
(Intellectual Property Management), also awarded by NUS. She holds the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property
jointly offered by the IP Academy Singapore and the Faculty of Law, NUS, and is currently working towards her qualification
as a Singapore Patent Agent.
Kana is fluent in both English and Japanese.
